We are looking for an individual with a general interest in the built environment who is ready to learn and develop his / her skills while working. We are also looking for an individual who can communicate with confidence, work as part of a team, and demonstrate their potential to succeed as an Apprentice Civils Operative, a role that integrates academic learning at the same time as providing valuable experience working on sites in the field.
This is a safety critical role and the learning element of the apprenticeship will provide you with the appropriate health, safety and environmental knowledge as well as the practical and technical skills required in order to qualify. You will undertake block placements ( usually a couple of weeks at a time ) with the training provider. During these periods, you will be provided with hotel accommodation, all meals and travel will paid for / reimbursed.
The role itself is interesting and varied, and at all times, you will be working with fully qualified operatives who will support and mentor you whilst you learn. Some of the tasks you can expect to undertake include:
• Excavation and backfill for highway construction
• Laying paving slabs and block paving
• Installation of drainage systems
• Placing and finishing structural concrete
• New Roads and Streetworks training
• Laying of kerbs and edgings
• Locating utility pipes and cables using CAT scanning tools
• Use of IT to receive and complete jobs
• Strict adherence to safety protocols at all times
Your professional development will not stop once you have completed your apprenticeship. Once qualified, you will be given opportunities for further training. You may wish to undertake large plant training (excavators, dumpers, ride on rollers, etc) or you may decide to advance your career by undertaking more specialised training in traffic management, trowel skills, steel fixing and formwork: basically the choice is yours if you would like to build a successful career with Milestone Infrastructure.
Ideally, we would like you to possess at least 3 GCSEs at grade 5 or above in English, Maths and a Science, however, this is not essential. We are most interested in your enthusiasm, potential and willingness to learn. We are also looking for:
• Enthusiasm
• Full driving licence or a willingness to gain one within 12 months
• Willing and able to undertake manual work outside in all weathers
