About The Role

IT Project and Portfolio Manager

Working with resources from Group IT, our Managed Service Provider, third party vendors and business stakeholders you will deliver a diverse range of IT Projects and initiatives.  Projects will vary in size and complexity and you will ensure that changes are delivered on time, to budget and to the required standard.




Project Initiation: Scoping and documenting key deliverables 

Project planning: Creating resource loaded project plans that allow the effective management of resource across the portfolio of projects. Plans will be updated through the life of the project. 

Business Cases: Ensures that all projects have a robust business case, sponsor, and approved budget. 

Risk Management: Identify and mitigate key risks to the delivery of projects on the IT Risk Register 

Cost management: Tracking the delivery costs of projects through their lifecycle 

Stakeholder management: Identify and manage key stakeholders through project delivery 

Project Reporting: Present project highlight reports and forward vision of IT Projects to the IT Steering group. Ensure that key risks are highlighted. Present conflicts in resources for the group for prioritisation. Highlight, changes to budget forecast. Regular Highlight Reports to sponsors and key stakeholders for in flight projects 

Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the Milestone IT Project Delivery Framework, identifying and implementing agreed improvement opportunities. 

Lessons Learned: Capture any lessons at project completion and initiate improvements to ensure that opportunities to improve are acted upon 

Other Reasonable requests: The successful candidate may be required to be involved in a variety of other tasks, as requested. Examples may include deputising for the IT Manager during leave periods, and hands on early life support during new contract mobilisations. 


Core Competencies:  

  • Awareness of both agile and waterfall methodologies 
  • A broad high-level knowledge of IT in enterprise organisations 
  • Good knowledge of the core Microsoft Products 
  • Good knowledge MS Project 
  • ITIL Foundation 
  • Demonstrable experience of responsibilities and desire to learn and develop areas where experience is limited.
Advantageous Competencies:
  • Knowledge of Microsoft SharePoint and Power BI or desire to learn these

  • Attention to detail and well organised 
  • Able to take initiative to overcome problems and drive projects to completion 
  • Flexible approach to work maintaining customer focus 
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people throughout the business 
  • Looks to develop and improve themselves and the business in which they work
