Apprentice Street Lighting Electrician

An apprenticeship at Milestone is an investment in your future and we are now recruiting for an Apprentice Street Lighting Electrician. We know our staff are our greatest asset; we will encourage you to realise your potential and will support your career aspirations. We are always on the lookout for talented individuals with the potential to be our leaders of tomorrow.

What’s in it for you?

  • 21 days paid holiday plus 8 bank holidays
  • Pension
  • Life assurance
  • Cycle to Work scheme
  • My Rewards discounted shopping scheme
  • Comprehensive Employee Assistance Scheme
  • Continued professional development

We are looking for an individual with an interest in street lighting who is ready to learn and develop their skills while working. We are also looking for an individual who can communicate with confidence, work as part of a team, and demonstrate their potential to succeed as an Apprentice Street Lighting Electrician, a role that integrates academic learning and provides valuable experiences working in the field.

This is a safety critical role, and the learning element of the apprenticeship will provide you with the appropriate health, safety and environmental knowledge as well as the practical and technical skills required in order to qualify.   You will undertake block placements (usually a couple of weeks at a time) with the training provider. During these periods, you will be provided with hotel accommodation, all meals and travel will be paid for / reimbursed.

The role itself is interesting and varied, and at all times you will be working with fully qualified electricians who will support and mentor you whilst you learn.

Some of the tasks you can expect to undertake include:

  • Install, maintain (including fault diagnosis and repairs), inspect and test low voltage highway electrical equipment and systems (e.g. street lighting, traffic signals, safety cameras)
  • Carry out emergency attendance and emergency works (e.g. where a car has hit a streetlight)
  • Ensure appropriate Health & Safety procedures are followed at all times
  • Ensure work is carried out efficiently, effectively and safely
  • Maintain effective working relationships
  • Work on your own initiative and as part of your team
  • Using tablets / devices to log work and update records

Your professional development will not stop once you have completed your apprenticeship.  As a street lighting electrician, there will be many opportunities to undertake further training and to develop specialist knowledge.  Some of our past apprentices have also gone on to become supervisors and managers and are now mentoring apprentices themselves.

Ideally, we would like you to possess at least 3 GCSEs at grade 5 or above in English, Maths and a Science, however, this is not essential.  We are most interested in your enthusiasm, potential and willingness to learn.

We are proud members of The 5% Club and are committed to ensuring that at least 5% of our workforce are in earn and learn roles such as apprenticeships.  Currently this figure is closer to 9% and growing.
