A little bit about the role…

An exciting opportunity to make a real impact in a fast-changing business. The focus is around getting the right person -someone who wants to challenge themselves and others to continuously learn and improve. The role will be responsible for the financial controls in Finance and around the business, with the added ingredient that you will be encouraged to get out and understand the business. The role is vital to support the Finance Director and the Executive team. We are flexible on the location of the candidate, we have offices in Southampton, Stevenage and Gatwick. 

 

As a Financial Controller, you will be:

  • Business Partnering – being inquisitive and understanding the business needs and how you can help and influence them to make the business better.
  • Being part of the team – work with the team to improve, develop and nurture – with a keen eye on engagement on how we can work more efficiently.
  • Staff development – monitor team staffing requirements on an ongoing basis, recommending and implementing changes to staffing levels and work allocation. Ensure a high level of cross-role competence, ensuring that both planned and unplanned absences can be satisfactorily covered. Provide assistance and coaching to all departmental staff in identifying and addressing training and development needs.
  • Financial reporting - manage transactions and preparation of final accounts for Dyer and Butler Limited, Dyer and Butler Electrical Limited, MGroup Transport Limited and Dyer and Butler 2014 Limited.
  • Income and Treasury Management - monthly cashflow forecast to M Group Services, review of weekly cash updates, approval of supplier spend allocations, and final approval of all BACs payments. Work with Commercial on debt collection and improving cash flow.
  • Contract Cost Reporting – manage the timely monthly completion of contract cost reporting. Consolidation of contract costs into monthly Operations Report.
  • Budgets & Forecasts – manage the timetable, completion, and reporting of all periodic forecasts, ensuring they are robust and can be fully explained.
  • Audit – main point of contact for all internal and external audits.
  • Financial Transactions – support and oversee all transactions and processes relating to all accounts functions.
  • Systems & Controls – attend audit planning/closing meetings to ensure that control matters raised by the company’s auditors are appropriately addressed. Liaise with third party software providers (e.g. Red Sky IT, Experian, Bankline) and the IT department to ensure systems are maintained and developed as required. Project work on improving financial systems used by the business.
  • Deputise for the Financial Director.
  • Keep up to date with legislations and current industry trends.

 

A little bit about you…

  • Previous experience in the construction / contracting industry
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office – demonstrable experience with Excel is essential.
  • Qualified accountant with experience in senior finance roles.
  • Strong team player.
  • Desire for self-development and career progression.
