Milestone Infrastructure is currently looking to recruit an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to work on our Wiltshire Highways Term Maintenance contract across all three depots at Melksham, Wilton and Chippenham.
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor you will be part of our Commercial Team who are responsible for managing the commercial aspects of the highway maintenance operations across Wiltshire, to maximise and protect the company’s commercial position by administering commercial functions in line with contract terms.
The Wiltshire Highways Maintenance Contract started in April 2023 and runs until March 2028, with a potential extension to 2033. The Contract delivers maintenance and improvement works to various highway assets across the local authority network such as the repairs of safety defects, gully emptying, drainage and footway improvements, grass cutting, streetlighting, emergency and winter service. Much of this is delivered by our direct labour based at 3 depots across the county, and further bolstered by a network of local and national supply chain partners. The operational teams are backed by a robust commercial team working alongside each other to ensure completed works are measured and valued appropriately.
As the Assistant Quantity Surveyor your duties & responsibilities will be:
- Valuation of activities associated with highway maintenance operations;
- Assist in the management of Subcontractor accounts, including review of applications for payment and drafting of payment notices;
- Assist in producing and analysing cost and value reports against forecast in conjunction with the Quantity Surveyor;
- Participate in monthly Cost Value Reconciliation review meetings with Commercial and Operational teams;
- Adherence to Milestone’s Commercial Guide and corporate protocols;
- Assist in the preparation of EWN’s and CE’s;
- Assist in the administration of Contractor/Subcontractor change control procedures;
- Provide information and responses to Client queries;
- Assist in pricing CE’s;
- Ad hoc commercial duties as the Managing Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager requires;
- Undertake site measures if required;
- AQS support to other entities within Milestone as and when instructed by the Managing Quantity Surveyor/Commercial Manager.
Skills & Knowledge Requirements
- Ability to use Microsoft Excel and Word
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
- Ability to effectively plan your workload, to maintain a methodical approach, be consistent and conscientious, have an analytical and inquisitive mind
- Ability to question, interrogate and verify information
- Ability to develop excellent relationships with contacts at all levels
- Knowledge of Causeway Project Accounting and HIAMS would be an advantage but not essential
- Experience of working within highways maintenance would be an advantage but not essential
Additional Information
This role would ideally suit someone in the early stages of a commercial career or someone looking to move into this discipline, and whilst prior commercial experience would be an advantage it is not essential. The successful candidate will need to feel comfortable with contesting the validity of data, as well as be able to integrate well with a team.
The role will require a minimum of 2 days per week in the office, with the remaining hours able to be undertaken remotely should the successful candidate wish.
