About The Role

Environmental Consultant

As an Environmental Consultant, you will provide specialist environmental consultancy services to Milestone Infrastructure’s contracts and projects, as well as external clients. In this role, you will be involved in a diverse range of interesting commissions from design through to construction and maintenance phases. Your support will contribute to the successful delivery of circular economy targets and other aspects of the Environmental Strategy. You will provide technical support to several complex and high-profile projects, requiring you to effectively communicate complex subjects with key stakeholders from a variety of backgrounds. You will be instrumental in supporting the growth and development of our technical environmental services offering, working on a variety of products such as ‘living’ operational documents, environmental consents, environmental permits, Materials Management Plans, and helping to maintain our ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • To act as a source of technical knowledge, especially for waste management, land quality, and environmental compliance.
  • Producing environmental permits (flood risk activity, waste, installation, etc.), including environmental risk assessments, pollution abatement plans, and site plans
  • Maintaining environmental compliance through inspections and audits of the business’ sites and depots
  • Reducing operational risk through environmental compliance audits of the business’ subcontractors and suppliers
  • Developing and delivering waste training to the business and external clients
  • Supporting with incident investigations and helping to implement of corrective actions
  • Support your colleagues within the Environmental Design Team to produce Design Environmental Assessments and complete actions, where required
  • Support your colleagues within the Carbon Team to produce carbon assessments and perform business carbon reporting, where required
  • Feed into tenders as required by the core business

To excel in this role you must possess the following skills and experience:

  • A degree in a relevant area, e.g. environmental management, physical sciences, geography, etc.
  • Demonstrable experience in a relevant field, e.g. waste management, contaminated land, ground engineering, environmental testing, etc.
  • Strong organisational and project management skills
  • Good communicator and experience delivering training
  • Effective at engaging leadership teams to deliver improved efficiency and effective legal compliance
  • Demonstrable passion for the Environment and Sustainability, driving innovation and an ability and desire to positively influence and develop those around them
  • Experience in customer and stakeholder engagement
  • A professional membership with an appropriate body and be working towards chartership
  • Experienced Microsoft Office user
  • Strong team player who is self-motivated
  • Willingness to travel within the UK when required 

You should also possess one or more of the following desirable skills and experience:

  • WAMITAB qualification & evidence of continuing competence desirable.
  • Chartership with an appropriate professional body
  • Experienced Power BI user
  • Experienced QGIS and/or EGIS user
  • Working knowledge of the Definition of Waste: Development Industry Code of Practice
  • Working knowledge of the aggregates from inert waste quality protocol
  • Working knowledge of WM3 waste classification technical guidance
