Milestone Infrastructure are currently looking to recruit Highways Operative to work on our Devon Highways contract in North Devon.

As a Highways Operative you will be part of our Devon Highways Team who are responsible for maintaining the Devon County Council network of roads.

On the Devon Highways contract we are looking to Temporary recruit  Highways Maintenance Operatives to work as part of a team undertaking a range of groundwork and specialist highway maintenance activities.

As the Highways Operative your duties & responsibilities will be:

• To promote health and safety culture and be responsible for undertaking works in a safe and compliant manner
• To be responsible for undertaking programmed maintenance works as directed by the Agent
• To assist in the improvement and maintenance of the network asset
• To undertake emergency call out as directed
• To work as part of operations crew undertaking various labouring duties including excavation works, laying and levelling of kerbs, slabs and bitumen macadam, drainage and gully installations
• To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the health, safety and welfare of own and other persons and to comply with all local and statutory Health & Safety procedures
• To operate small plant and equipment used in highway maintenance with guidance and the appropriate certificates.
• To install traffic management under instruction in accordance with method statements
• To ensure that work undertaken is in line with company standards
• To respond to customers both internal and external in a courteous and helpful manner.
• To ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained and stored in the appropriate manner
• To ensure that all paperwork is completed fully and in accordance to the deadlines
• To maintain a professional appearance appropriate to the work environment.
• To undertake any duty that may be properly deemed by the Agent
• To participate in an out of hours emergency call out system covering the Devon Highways Services network
• To participate in Winter Services duties as required

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

• Willing to work in all weathers and unsociable hours as required and be available for out of hours emergency call outs
• UK driving licence
• Good numeracy and literacy skills
• CSCS

Preferred but not essential

• Previous experience of work on the highway
• Experience/Certificated for operating small plant
• Traffic Management qualification
• NRSWA
• Clean driving licence
• LGV/HGV Driving licence

Additional Information

• You must possess a high degree of manual dexterity demonstrated through the use of hand tools.
• You will be required to work outdoors in all weathers and be required to walk and stand on uneven ground. 
• You must also be able to work within a confined space, without restriction.
