We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Civil Engineer to join the team and learn alongside our experienced engineers about how to be responsible for the daily control, management, and coordination of construction activities on site to ensure projects are delivered on time, on budget and to the required safety, environmental and quality standards. With the support of your work-based mentor, your responsibilities will increase as your skills and technical knowledge develop.
The projects Southeast team delivery civil engineering projects for clients such as Hampshire County Council, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council and Connect Plus (M25).
Botley Bypass (Hampshire)
- Project Overview: The Botley Bypass is a significant infrastructure project aimed at reducing congestion and improving traffic flow around the village of Botley. This project involves constructing a new road to divert traffic from the busy A334.
Ringwood Road (Poole)
- Project Overview: The Ringwood Road project focuses on improving one of the main arterial routes in Poole. This includes road widening, resurfacing, and upgrading pedestrian and cycling facilities to enhance safety and accessibility.
M25 Renewals Frameworks
- Project Overview: Connect Plus is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the M25, one of the busiest motorways in Europe. The M25 Renewals Frameworks involve ongoing maintenance and upgrade projects to ensure the motorway remains safe and efficient.
Key Project Responsibilities: As part of these projects, you will be involved in various stages of road construction, including planning, setting out, and on-site supervision, while gaining experience in managing construction programmes, ensuring compliance with safety regulations, and coordinating with various stakeholders. You will assist in the implementation of road improvements, working closely with engineers to ensure the project meets local standards, and gain experience in traffic management and environmental impact assessments. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to work on large-scale infrastructure projects, such as road resurfacing and the implementation of smart motorway technologies, learning about asset management, project planning, and the use of innovative construction techniques.
These projects will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of civil engineering practices, from initial planning and design to execution and maintenance. It’s a fantastic opportunity for hands-on learning and professional development in the field of civil engineering.
Key responsibilities:
- The design of highway structures (bridges, retaining walls, culverts, head walls, masts, sign bases etc).
- Assessment of highway structures for load capacity.
- Utilise relevant structures design software to assist in the development of solutions;
- Undertaking designs (new builds & maintenance) and producing design packages for construction;
- Produce technical reports and other technical output to achieve project outcomes;
- Undertake site visits, surveys and investigations;
- Ensure work is undertaken in compliance with QSE standards and processes;
- Technical training/supervision of Technicians;
- Working collaboratively with customers to understand and develop project objectives.
Skills and Experience:
- Knowledge of structures analytical software and its use within a bridges environment (desirable)
- Knowledge of National Highways standards such as the DMRB and MCDHW (preferred)
- Knowledge of Health and Safety and Construction Design Management (CDM) in design and construction
- Computer literate particularly with packages such as Microsoft Excel and Word, and AutoCad (desirable)
- Driving License compulsory
