Dyer & Butler, part of MGroup Services, is seeking an experienced P6 Planner to join our Rail division. This role focuses on supporting project delivery, work forecasting, monitoring, and producing tender programmes. The successful candidate will act as the primary lead planner within the rail division, ensuring effective NEC contract programme administration and running both internal and client programme workshops.
This role covers rail work across the UK and will involve working from various locations but will primarily be based out of our Sidcup or Central London offices, with opportunities for working from home one to two days per week.
Job Requirements:
- Develop comprehensive tender and delivery programmes using Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Collaborate with estimators and tender sponsors to understand project deliverables and contribute to the overall bid strategy.
- Facilitate planning workshops to define and capture project methodologies while considering contractual and operational constraints.
- Simultaneously manage multiple tender programmes and projects.
- Support the planning team with day-to-day programme management tasks, as needed.
- Monitor and update project programmes throughout their lifecycle, ensuring alignment with progress and change management.
- Provide detailed progress reports and programme narratives to stakeholders.
- Liaise with external contractors and suppliers to coordinate construction phases.
- Input cost and resource loading for programmes.
- Ensure compliance with the Company Management System (CMS) and stay updated on industry trends and legislation.
Skills and Experience:
- 5+ years of planning experience in construction or civil engineering in the UK.
- Proficiency in Primavera P6 and Microsoft Project.
- Essential experience in Rail; exposure to M&E, Civil Engineering, and NEC Contract Administration is desirable.
- Proven track record in producing tender programmes is desirable
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to lead planning workshops and present programmes at tender adjudication meetings, client presentations, and internal management reviews.
- Excellent time and workload management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Knowledge of programme controls and change management processes.
- Understanding of contracts’ programme requirements and interdependencies with third-party interfaces.

Dyer & Butler are currently recruiting for a Quantity Surveyor to bolster our commercial team within our ambitious and growing Rail Division working on a variety of stand alone and framework projects with or valued Clients such as Network Rail, Transport for London and Train Operating Companies.
The role will include a variety of civil engineering and rail infrastructure contracts, including pre-contract, internal reporting, contract administration and commercial management.
Duties will include:
- Providing the commercial function across a wide variety of projects delivered under framework agreements and also stand-alone projects as required, to ensure successful project delivery.
- Working within a team of talented professionals ensuring co-ordination and provision across all aspects of project delivery,
- Undertake pre-contract setup, including forecasting, measurement, sub-contract tendering and procurement,
- Effectively manage the commercial aspects of the project, including valuations, budget monitoring, material/plant reconciliation and contract variations.
- Management and close out of Final Accounts
- Assess, review and mitigate commercial and contractual risks
- Maximize cashflow through the control and valuation of works, invoicing and payment processes
- Ensure compliance with all legal requirements, including contractual and legislative
- Preparing and reporting through Monthly Cost Value Reports
- Promoting collaborative and effective teamworking within the client environment
- Assisting and providing commercial/contractual guidance during production of cost significant variations
- Pro-active dispute avoidance and management
Applicant must have gained experience in a similar level role, be well organised with good presentation skills and have the ability to communicate professionally at all levels.
- Degree Qualified in either Quantity Surveying or Construction Management (or equivalent)
- Successfully worked within a team of Quantity Surveyors previously, but equally capable of working alone
- A real eye for the finer details
- Confident IT skills, particularly Excel
- Previous experience with NEC & JCT forms of contract is essential
Due to the variety of forms of contract used and complexity of the projects we work on, we prefer applicants for this role to have a background and experience in civil infrastructure and/or civil engineering contracts.
They should be commercially astute with a history of delivering projects within budget and possess the necessary interpersonal skills to work closely with client and site teams.
