About The Role

We're looking to recruit a Street Lighting Installation Operative to work on our Peterborough Highways Services contract in Peterborough.

As a Street Lighting Installation Operative you will be part of our Street Lighting Operations team who are responsible for the maintenance of all Street Lighting assets within the Peterborough network.

Peterborough Highway Services is a partnership between Peterborough City Council and Skanska.  The contract was awarded on 15th August 2013 and the contract started on 1st October 2013. Peterborough Highway Services is responsible for improving and maintaining Peterborough’s highway network including roads, drainage, street lighting and bridges. 

You'll be responsible for:

  • Installation of street lighting equipment
  • To improve the existing network by undertaking installation of new units
  • To realign or remove damaged or obsolete lighting units
  • To install traffic management in accordance with chapter 8 safety at street works and road works (Red Book)
    To ensure that reasonable care is taken at all times for the Health, Safety and Welfare of own and other persons and to comply with all local and statutory Health and Safety procedures
  • To ensure that work undertaken is in line with the current ISO Quality and Environmental standard
  • To respond to customers both internal and external in a courteous and helpful manner
  • To ensure tools and equipment are cleaned, maintained and stored in the appropriate manner
  • To ensure that all paperwork is completed fully and in accordance to the deadline
  • To maintain a professional appearance to the working environment
  • To undertake any duty that may be properly deemed by the supervisor to be part of the role of a street lighting operative
  • To undertake emergency call out in and out of hours as directed
  • To update inventory information of assets using PDA’s/Tablet/Paper format
  • Daily vehicle checks are undertaken and the vehicle is kept clean and tidy
  • To ensure members of the public are not put in any danger due to works being undertaken

You'll have:

  • HIAB crane operator 
  • LGV Entitlement 
  • G39 Competency
  • First Aid at Work 
  • NRSWA Competency
  • Current valid driving licence - Required
  • Experience of working on the highways – Desirable
  • Familiarisation with HIAB crane - Desirable
  • Previous street lighting experience - Desirable
  • Work as part of a team
  • Be prepared to work unsociable hours as required
