About The Role

We are seeking a Business Director to join us within the Milestone Infrastructure Ltd Senior Team. You will be responsible for leading tendering, mobilisation and delivery of large infrastructure contracts, providing a combination of highway maintenance, engineering consultancy and civil engineering projects to Local Authority clients.

 

You'll be responsible for:

 
  • Leadership of tender to meet client programme and internal governance.

  • Leadership of mobilisation of contract ensuring compliance with internal governance and all relevant legislation associated with the delivery of the contract requirements.

  • Client engagement and relationship management at local government Corporate Director level

  • Accountability for managing a £50m+ per annum turnover and outperforming gross income forecasts

  • Developing, communicating and embedding local strategy in line with the corporate business plan

  • Performance management and improvement against key business targets – operational, financial, people, health/safety, quality, environmental and client satisfaction

  • Developing and achieving financial outperform action plans

  • Supporting regional and national business development activities, identifying and pursuing opportunities and developing the Milestone brand

  • Engagement with key stakeholders and communities

  • Strategic management of the supply chain

  • Delivery of monthly operational and financial reporting

  • Promoting improvement opportunities and innovations

  • Line management of local Contract Leadership Team.

  • Leadership of a business with circa 200 staff and operatives with diverse roles. Continuing to foster a culture with Milestone values at its heart and continually enhancing levels of employee engagement.

 

Working Environment

 
  • Flexibility required in working hours to ensure outcomes are achieved

  • Multi-location working across the region is expected – including Milestone offices/depots, plus construction sites and client offices

  • Regular travel to other locations outside the region expected e.g. to Head Office and other UK Contracts

 

You'll have:

 
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or other Construction, Engineering or Project Management equivalent

  • Chartered Engineer

  • CSCS Card

  • IOSH Safety Qualification

  • Proven track record of successfully leading a substantial construction, maintenance or other operational contract for public or private sector clients

  • Proven track record of consistently meeting or exceeding business financial, productivity, growth and safety targets

  • Experience of managing a sizeable operational workforce delivering construction or maintenance activities

  • Experience of leading a multidisciplinary business

  • Strong competency in interrogating profit and loss accounts and cost value reports, as well as developing and presenting regular financial forecasts

  • Experience of working at a strategic with public sector clients to deliver asset maintenance or improvement works

  • Knowledge of UK local authority highway sector including efficiency drivers
