About The Role

Milestone  Infrastructure are currently looking to recruit a Mobile fitter to work on our Highways contract in the Somerset area.

As a Mobile Fitter you will be part of our Somerset Workshops Business Unit who are responsible for maintaining vehicles & plant and undertaking repairs for 3 main clients, being our Somerset County Council contract, our internal fleet & assets and finally our 3rd party client base.

We currently have ten highways maintenance contracts, another six contracts for street lighting maintenance, and a variety of large, complex, civil engineering projects across southern and central England.  The workshop business sits with the Somerset Highways Contract and is one of only two contracts to have their own workshops.  There are 7 workshops within Somerset based around the whole county.

The role is largely workshop based, travelling to any of the 7 workshops within Somerset as required.  The needs are based around annual leave cover, sickness and workload demands within any of the workshops as dictated by the Line Manager.

We work on a variety of vehicles, mainly consisting of cars, vans, minibuses, tippers, gulley jetter & gritters.  Plant consists of ploughs, breaker guns & Wacker plates.

There is a requirement to provide an out of hours service for breakdowns & repairs during the months of October to April for our winter fleet of gritters.  This requirement is one week in every six minimum during that period.

You will be provided with a company van and mobile to undertake your duties. You must supply your own basic tools.

As the Mobile Fitter your duties & responsibilities will be and not limited to:

  • Supporting contract workshops undertaking inspections, servicing, MOT prep & LOLERS and vehicle repairs in times of annual leave, sickness & excessive workload
  • To ensure that all workshop paperwork is completed accurately and within agreed timescales, returning all admin/compliance docs to Business Support.
  • To ensure all work is carried out in a cost-efficient manner
  • Customer vehicles on our premises
  • OTHER – you may be expected to carry out other tasks within your capabilities as detailed by the Workshops Manager

Skills & Knowledge Requirements

  • Recognised motor vehicle engineering qualification
  • Class C licence or above - essential
  • Understanding of the Operator’s Licence regulations
  • PSV Licence - desirable
  • IT literate – MS Office package (desired)
  • R2C Fleet management system (an advantage but not necessary)
